For years, in a sport that is ever evolving, women have been slowly immersing themselves onto the gridiron.  With over 100 adult women’s tackle football teams in the United States alone, there has yet to be a show of consistent investment in a foundation for females playing the sport.  A strong foundation roots itself, creating a self-sustaining mechanism that exhibits growth and development on a base level.

In Iowa, we have seen much interest for girls to play, but few opportunities.  We want to provide a place where females can participate with their peers without having concerns involving gender.  We feel that self-confidence and sportsmanship will be attained through creating this space for girls to have a league of their own.

As an organization we want to set the standard for how youth sports should operate.  The foundation we form can create a platform of empowerment and proper development progression for the athletes we serve.  By example, we can show other organizations the positive culture that quality organizational structure can provide to our developing and impressionable athletes. The excellence we provide our members is showing them ways to be courageous, daring, strong, wholehearted, committed, and better human beings through the sport of football.

The Iowa Girls Football Association boasts a Board of Directors ready to hit the ground and replace words with actions.  Board President Julie Bardin is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Des Moines and brings a wealth of experience working specifically with female youth in the non-profit realm.  Vice President Sherry Justice-Olson has worked for over 16 years in clinical medical research and served various roles for Dockdogs Northern Stars.  Secretary of the Board, Alycia Comer has 1 year of playing experience and will be chair of the grant writing and donations committee.  Treasurer of the Board, Ashleigh Battin has 5 years of experience in the realm of women’s tackle football and will be the chair of the fundraising committee.  Director of Marketing, Daniel Mussel has been a huge supporter of women’s tackle football in Iowa the past 2 years including serving as a team photographer and his Master’s degree in marketing along with a catalogue of experience will serve well to push the organization in a positive direction.

The acting Executive Director of the IAGFA is Nancy Javaux.  She has had an active role in women’s tackle football for the past 11 years.  For many years, Nancy has felt a strong desire to build an organizational structure to lay a strong foundation to support, develop, and grow the sport.  She is excited to finally have the right mix of people in place to make a strong desire an unrelenting reality focused on impacting the world of football as it continues to evolve.
